Continuing to Support WAHO’s HRIS Strengthening Work

The HRIS Team continues to support the HRIS strengthening efforts of the West African Health Organization (WAHO). As we reported a few weeks ago, WAHO is currently piloting the iHRIS Manage software in the Northern Region of Ghana, one of the 15 countries the organization serves, to explore its ability to collate and analyze routine HRH data and to determine indicators for decision-making.

The first phase of the pilot is underway at the Northern Region Health Directorate. An iHRIS appliance loaded with iHRIS Manage was customized for the region and connected to a local area network. HR staff of the HR Department of Directorate were trained and then given access to the software to test working with regional MOH employee data.

The iHRIS developers are now configuring two more appliances for the pilot – one for a teaching hospital in Tamale (a city in the Northern Region) and one for future demonstrations and training. The appliance for the hospital is being installed with the iHRIS Manage software and the one for demonstration and training  is being installed with the complete iHRIS Suite. The appliances will be shipped to West Africa on Friday, and the next phase of the pilot will start in a few weeks.

Once the pilot is complete, WAHO will present the results at the national and regional level.  WAHO then plans to train more HR managers and staff -- along with IT staff of the ministry of health -- in the nine other regions in Ghana and teaching hospitals, with the goal of nation-wide deployment of the iHRIS Manage software. Then, iHRIS Manage will be introduced to other WAHO countries on demand.
