ECSA Regional DDDM Workshop Being Held This Week

Today marks the first day of the four-day East, Central and Southern Africa (ECSA) Regional Data-Driven Decision Making (DDDM) Workshop that the HRIS Strengthening team is hosting in Arusha, Tanzania. Participants from Rwanda, Botswana, Ethiopia, Kenya, Lesotho, Namibia, Southern Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda and the World Health Organization are attending.

The objectives of this Workshop are:

  1. Share lessons learned and experiences about country-level systems and strengthening approaches, and the degree to which data are used for decision-making
  2. Develop a forward-looking regional network of HRIS and data-driven decision-making champions that will create a culture for using routine administrative data to address policy and management decisions
  3. Explore opportunities to harmonize and strengthen efforts with other organizations and systems to establish linkages between health information systems (HIS), health management information systems (HMIS) and HRIS
  4. Expand the knowledge base and synergies between HR data/reports and data-driven decision-making to accelerate the uptake of approaches, tools and practices by HRIS teams and country-level policy-makers.

Workshop participants will spend an intensive four days learning about human resources management, data collection, DDDM and the iHRIS software suite. The majority of the Workshop will be divided into a policy and a technical track. Policy track participants will delve into policy and management questions, sustainability and data use issues. The technical track participants will get into PHP programming, participating in open source communities, writing use cases and strengthening infrastructure.
