iHRIS under GPLv3

With the iHRIS suite of software we decided from the start that it would be open source. There are many benefits to making a piece of software open source - and many more websites devoted to those reasons. Our main reason was people. We want to empower the people who use iHRIS to be able to do with it what they need to do, not what we allow them to do. With open source the users are given the source code with which they can fix it, modify it, install a subset of it, and even redistribute it. That is power.

To that end we have decided to release iHRIS under the newly created Version 3 of the General Public License (GPL). The GPL has a long and famous history as the most widely used free/open source software license. The Free Software Foundation (FSF) has worked tirelessly with many people from all points of interest in the industry to update the GPL to reflect the circumstances we find ourselves in currently - especially when talking about defensive(and offensive) software patent claims. The GPLv3 is a natural fit for iHRIS and for the users of iHRIS.

Stay tuned for the official release of iHRIS - we hope that with the use of such a free license we can also have people help us extend the suite and make it even better than it already is.
